Tata Motors will launch Nanos CNG variant in October, during Navratras. Sources, however, say the companys plan for a pan-India launch in October may receive a setback and the rollout may be limited as it is struggling to build up inventories due to parts shortage for CNG variant.

There is a general delay in the CNG launch. We have come to know the launch is now tentatively scheduled for the later part of Q3 FY14, said a leading supplier.

At least half-a-dozen suppliers deliver about 8-9 components that go into the various parts for the installation of CNG kit inside the cabin of the car. The company has placed limited orders for the initial launch and there have been no fresh orders. The car maker is looking at making upgradations for which it needs newer parts, said the vendor associated with the development.

Tatas have, however, denied the delay in the launch. We are well on track with our scheduled launch of the Tata Nano CNG as yet another innovative product from the company, said the Tata Motors spokesperson denying any delay. The product was unveiled in June 2013 and is scheduled to be in the market by October 2013. There have not been any changes to our plans as we gear up for the market launch, the company said.

Meanwhile, the carmaker has opened the bookings for the new Nano variant, which comes fitted with CNG kits placed under the driver seat, with select dealers in Mumbai and Delhi.

The company said the placement of cylinder inside the cabin is innovative and unique in helping deliver exceedingly well in terms of fuel-efficiency and reliability.
