E-HR basically means opening up the lines of communication. By putting our policies for example on the internet and intranet, we will be ensuring greater transparency in our HR policies and procedures, Mr Prasad said at a select press meeting on Thursday.
He added that by putting information related to HR on our website for example, and being open about our policies, we ensure that all our employees have access to any information they require. They can access their tax returns, investments etc easily and even find out about simple things like vacancies in the company.
We have tied up with our sister company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) for all our Information Technology (IT) initiatives and have planned with them on our E-HR as well, Mr Menon said.
In addition to E-HR, TCL with TCS has begun begun the process of connecting the company with its customers. Using IT as an agent, the customers will get to know information on the stocks, the materials etc, explained TCS head of manufacturing practice, Dr Ravi Gopinath.
Processes like reverse auctions with suppliers and actual deals are now being conducted through these methods, added Mr Menon. In addition to improvements within the manufacturing processes of TCL, the company intends to extend its IT initiatives to help Indian farmers by mapping soil, providing access to information via portals and in the future connectivity to agricultural experts. ]
The company presently spends between 0.6-0.7 per cent of its turnover on IT initiatives and according to Mr Menon, the figure would go up depending on the kind of solutions that will be deployed.
