Energy Watchdog, an NGO, has challenged the Central Electricity Regulatory Commissions recent orders of compensatory tariff for Tata Power and Adani Powers generating stations in Mundra at the Appellate Tribunal for Electricity.

Under long-term contracts, Tata Powers 4,000-mw ultra-mega power project supplies electricity to five states Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Gujarat while 2,420 mw power from Adani Powers nearby plant is consumed by only two states, Gujarat and Haryana.

In two separate appeals filed with the Aptel, the NGO said that the CERC has allowed undue favours to Tata Power and Adani Power( allegedly amounting to R44,000 crore and R31,808 crore over a 25-year period) by granting them extra tariff for electricity, payable from a retrospective date.
