Tamil Nadu firm moves IPAB against iPhone trademark

Tamil Nadu-based iVoice Enterprises has moved the Intellectual Property Appellate Board (IPAB) against Apple Inc's iPhone trademark and sought its removal from the trademark registry in India.

According to a statement from iVoice Enterprises, a mobile phone manufacturer and distributor based in Erode, Tamil Nadu, it has filed a rectification petition with IPAB challenging the veracity of the iPhone trademark belonging to Apple Inc, USA.

IPAB will conduct a hearing next week in Chennai, regarding the admissibility of the counter statement filed by Apple in defending iPhone trademark for appellate board records, the statement added.

iVoice Ventures Private has acquired the IP rights of a pending trademark application from iVoice Enterprises and the title transfer pertaining to rectification petition is pending before IPAB.

iVoice Ventures is a technology firm focused on IPR, mobile, Apps and IoT ecosystem, with primary emphasis on the Indian sub-continent.
