A move that may not augur well for the Advani loyalists, senior BJP leader Kalyan Singh has reportedly suggested to the high command to bring back former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharati into the party fold. The suggestion, Singh feels, is in the larger interest of the party.

Ever since Rajnath Singh took over as party president, talks have been on to bring Bharati back. But the communication from Kalyan, BJPs chief minsterial candidate for UP to the party president has instilled a sense of urgency in the high command. According to BJP sources, for Kalyan, the main reason to convey his feelings was not because Bharati belonged to his Lodh community, but her recent separate meetings with Congress leaders Moti Lal Vohra, Uttaranchal chief minister ND Tiwari, Union minister Oscar Fernandes and Ahmed Patel, political adviser to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi.

If she goes with the Congress, then Congress and her party Bharatiya Janshakti, will be able to cut into the BJP vote bank and hamper the party in UP and Uttrakhand, Singh is believed to have told the party high command. A meeting of BJP-RSS co-ordination committee is expected to take place soon, sources said. The members of the co-ordination committee are senior RSS leaders Mohan Bhagwat, Madan Das Devi, Ram Madhav and BJP president Rajnath Singh and partys general secretary (organisation) Sanjay Joshi.
