You have aptly raised the need of letting the rupee appreciate and find its own level, instead of resorting to frequent CRR hikes by RBI to combat inflation (?CRRedibility crisis?, Apr 19). Indian banks? net interest margins have already come under strain. The government should now increasingly focus on indirect measures, like cutting import tariffs and discouraging exports to create buffer stocks, as the problem this time round is more on account of supply side constraints.

Genuinely global

Richard Haas may be right that it is a ?non-polar world? now (?Living in a non-polar world?, Apr 22). This only goes to underline the need for the next US president to be someone who has a genuine grasp of the world beyond America and an understanding derived from time spent not as an official visitor, but as a regular guy, having real conversations with people.
