Sun set for DMK

That all is not well within the DMKs first family is known. Family patriarch and DMK supremo, M Karuna-nidhi, has been upset with the Maran siblings, his grand-nephews, for not giving much airtime for his son and heir, MK Stalin, in the family-owned Sun TV network. But nobody expected him to walk out of the network, which owns Sun TV and its bouquet of channels, with some vernacular magazines, in a huff selling his stake. DMK insiders say the patriarch, who is in his 80s, was upset by the shoddy coverage given to the DMK and to Stalin by the Tamil daily, Dinakaran, recently taken over by the Marans. Though the Marans offered no comments, the party grapevine says the last episode of this family soap is yet to be aired.

Home run

While addressing a gathering of CEOs at a recent function, civil aviation minister Praful Patel mentioned something hed overheard about the present government while taking a flight. He said two co-passengers were talking of the number of new airlines launched and how there were so many choices. Apparently, they also had a word of praise for the intellectual lot in the UPA government. The gentlemen were saying how it was nice to have intelligent, educated people like Dr Manm-ohan Singh, P Chidambaram, Mani Shankar Aiyar and you, Montek, the minister said, to the Planning Commission deputy chairman. And, yes, they also mentioned me! Guess some self-appreciation doesnt do any harm.
