Suguna Poultry spreads its wings northwards

Coimbatore-based Rs 1,100-crore Suguna Poultry Farm Ltd is entering the Punjab-Haryana-New Delhi region with its innovative contract farming system. It also has plans to expand from broilers to the layer section along with marketing novel chicken products.

"We are planning to invest around Rs 50 crore in the next three years empowering more than 1,000 farmers in the region and providing indirect employment to 7,000 persons", B Soundararajan, managing director, Suguna group, said on Tuesday.

The company has already started its operations in Punjab and is entering Haryana with a regional base in Delhi.

A leader in broiler integration through contract farming system, the groups operations have covered Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Punjab, West Bengal and Orissa.

It has a strong R&D network that executes quality monitoring, feed development and other related technologies.

Sugunas new focus is on the layer section (eggs production) through a tie-up with the German Lohman group. "We will bring LSL-Lite, the top chick brand in the world to Indian farmers", Soundarajan said.

The company would soon initiate livestock marketing through retail chains that would ensure complete hygiene. Product variants, extended customer services like dia-a-chicken, co-branding with add-on product items to the chicken and chicken kiosks are among the immediate future plans, he added.
