Steer clear of protectionist attitude

India has asserted that developed countries should not adopt a protectionist attitude towards emerging economies amid concerns over Britains decision to impose a cap on immigration from non-EU nations.

Reacting to Britains decision to impose a cap on immigration from the non-EU countries, commerce minister Anand Sharma said, Developed countries cannot have protectionist attitude toward emerging economies anymore. Home secretary Theresa May on Monday announced an annual limit of 24,100 for non-EU professionals to be allowed into the UK until April 2011. It could hit Indian professionals who wont be able to take up jobs in Britain after the announcement limiting non-EU professionals to be allowed into the country at 24,100.
