Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi sought to reassure regional leaders that deteriorating relations between Asias two biggest economies wont harm wider talks on trade and investment. Koizumi told Apec leaders that Chinas friendship is important and Asias fastest-growing economy provides Japan with an opportunity, a Japanese foreign ministry official said at a briefing in Busan, South Korea, where the 2-day summit is being held. Koizumi was speaking after Chinese President Hu Jintao rejected his request for bilateral talks in protest over the Japanese leaders Oct. 17 visit to a controversial war shrine.
