Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati has claimed that at least two dozen legislators belonging to Samajwadi Party of Mulayam Singh Yadav were ready to leave Samajwadi party (SP) and join Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) any time.

In a statement issued here, Mayawati said, there is no truth in the assertions of SP leader Amar Singh that 15 BSP legislators were prepared to join SP. Instead, she said, more than two dozen SP legislators had maintained regular contact with her and would come out in open if an attempt was made to topple her government.

She also said the allegation that Mr Singh had been threatened by state chief secretary DS Bagga was cooked up.
