In a bid to garner more broadband customers, Sify has introduced an entry level pricing for Internet over cable at Rs 299 a month for 10 hours. The existing monthly price is Rs 1,250 with a maximum surfing of six hours a day.
The Chennai-based company is also tying up with local cable operators to gain last-mile access to customers.
Sify is offering 25 per cent commission to woo cable operators. The company has managed to rope in 20 cable operators, 10 of whom are from Chennai and eight from Delhi. Sify plans to enter Bangalore in two weeks and Mumbai in two months.
Companys officials, however, declined to comment on whether Sify was roping in cable operators for broadband Internet access.
Sources, though, confirmed that cable operators were being approached with a commission structure of 25 per cent.
We would have to invest Rs 1.25 lakh in a radio unit which is otherwise called a subscriber unit. The radio unit will have 10 mbps. Sify will provide the bandwidth and pay us a 25 per cent commission, said a cable operator in Chennai.
Sify, it is learnt, has appointed Delhi-based Sky Merchants as its national partners for Internet over cable. Sky Merchants, a cable operator said, was in Mumbai to discuss the Sify offer.
Sify, which had a single price package earlier, has introduced two new schemes. Under the Startup Pack, consumers will have to pay Rs 299 a month for 10 hours. One of the attractive features is that consumers will get free surfing on Sundays while they will have to pay just 50 per cent of the charges in the night from 10 PM-to-7 AM.
According to the second package, consumers will be charged Rs 999 a month for 99 hours. Sify was running just one scheme which was priced at Rs 1,250 a month with maximum surfing of six hours a day.
Sify is offering a committed download speed of 64 kbps at any given time for all the schemes. Besides, there is no download limit.
