Sidhuisms to the fore

Sidhuisms came to the fore in Lok Sabha on Thursday with the cricketer-turned-politician accusing the Punjab government and the Centre of ignoring Amritsars all round development.

The BJP member, who moved a calling attention relating to establishment of a special economic zone (SEZ) in Amritsar, said unless the state government notifies land for the SEZ, it cannot come up.

The real bone of contention is that there cannot be any fruit without a root, he stressed.

Sir, you may have 40 million reasons for failure, not a single excuse, he told commerce minister Kamal Nath who said the proposal for a SEZ in Amritsar has been approved in principle.

I grow daily to honour facts more and more and theory less and less, and facts will not cease to exist just because they are ignored, he said adding to me, the remedies of the state government have been worse than Amritsars illness.

Minds are like parachutes and these do not function unless opened, was another of his quotable quotes.

Accusing the state government of not knowing the definition of SEZ, he said it was like an umbrella without ribs and sleeping on the issue for the last one year.

Referring to Prime Ministers assurance that the Centre would extend all necessary help to the Punjab government for setting up the SEZ, Mr Sidhu said it was the general proposing and the captain disposing.
