Shaw Wallace brand strategy sees exit of six brands

The UB groups open offer for a 25% equity stake in Shaw Wallace & Co (SWC) for Rs 250 per share comes at a time when SWC has dropped six brands from its liquor portfolio.

These are Malkajgiri Malt Whisky, Punch Fine and High Command in Andhra Pradesh, Gold Medal Brandy, Black Panther Rum and Kings Blend Brandy in Kerala. Production of these brands has stopped.

According to SWC officials, the increasing cost on account of rising raw material prices, particularly that of molasses, has resulted in SWCs reworked brand strategy. Officials added that the focus was on improving the product mix and work toward enhancing the value from these brands.
