Shahid Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor starrer ‘Haider’, released on Thursday, a holiday, but despite that boost its box office collections reached only Rs 6.14 crore on opening day. The reason was not hard to find – it wilted under the strong competition from Hrithik Roshan starrer ‘Bang Bang’.
In this report, we compare the opening day collections of ‘Haider’ to Shahid Kapoor, Shraddha Kapoor and Vishal Bhardwaj’s earlier releases. Surprisingly, ‘Haider’ failed to even surpass Shahid’s earlier release R… Rajkumar, which had notched up box office collections of Rs 10.2 crore.
Similarly, in the case of Shraddha Kapoor, ‘Haider’ becomes her third highest grosser after ‘Ek Villain’ and ‘Aashiqui 2’ that collected Rs 16.72 crore and Rs 6.25 crore respectively.
For Vishal Bhardwaj, ‘Haider’ managed to beat his previous film ‘7 Khoon Maaf’ that managed Rs 3.30 crore, but failed to beat ‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’ that collected Rs 7.02 crore.
According to reports, ‘Haider’ has managed a measly 25-30% opening occupancy rate. ‘Haider’, which is looking at a rather niche and selective outing for itself, has been released on around 1,100 screens.
