Shahid Kapoor starrer ‘Haider’ box office collections have gone and done it again ? fallen short, rather, well short, of expectations on day 5 too ? we are talking money here, and not about the quality of the acting or the movie itself.
Far from building up its box office collections momentum on Eid day, ‘Haider’ actually lost it, clocking just above the Rs 5 crore mark on Monday.
In fact, quite astonishingly, ‘Haider’ managed to log its lowest-ever box office collections figure at just Rs 5.03 crore.
Clearly, Vishal Bharadwaj’s best so far is not really what the cinema going public wants. Or, perhaps, William Shakespeare is not very high on their list of things they want to get close up and personal with, even if the setting is exquisite.
Time for Bharadwaj to drop Shakespeare? Well, after Maqbool (2003), Omkara (2006) and now Haider, it will take wild horses to get him to turn his back on ‘The Bard’.
Perhaps, the film stopped short of making a strong political point, considering the setting is Kashmir, and falls between two stools had something to do with it.
The total box office collections figure for ‘Haider’, including global is Rs 38.32 crore ? the movie was made at a budget of Rs 24 cr.
