Sensex leaps 202 pts on better results

The benchmark indices continued their northward run for the third consecutive day on Wednesday as impressive results of some of the index constituents lifted the sentiments on the bourses.

The benchmark Sensex soared 201.66 points to cross the 10,600-mark and settle at 10,617.27. The 30-share index has now shot up by more than 530 points in the last three trading sessions.

On the other hand, the broader S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) has added 165.15 points since Monday. On Wednesday, the 50-share Nifty ended at 3,110.15, up 69.65 points.

Two of the Sensex heavyweights - ONGC and Bharti Airtel - announced their corporate numbers on Wednesday, with the state-owned exploration giant even declaring a bonus in the ratio of 1:2.

The market breadth was strong with nearly 1,700 stocks gaining ground on BSE, as against only 705 losers. The Sensex pack comprised 28 gainers.
