The Supreme Court on Friday allowed jailed Sahara Group chief Subrata Roy to stay in and use the conference room within the Tihar Jail complex for 10 days to negotiate sale of the group's 'big ticket' hotels abroad. This will enable Roy to hold negotiations with potential buyers to sell his luxury hotels Dream Downtown and The Plaza in New York and Grosvenor House in London to raise R10,000 crore to get regular bail.

A special judge headed by Justice TS Thakur allowed Roy to use the room for 10 working days starting on August 5. The room will be notified as jail by the Delhi government by August 4.

While allowing him and two others to hold negotiations from the room, the bench said they are still under judicial custody and it is not a substitute for liberty.

The room, which comes with wifi and video conferencing facilities, will also house two Sahara directors for the period.
