SBI Q1 Net Up 31.64 Per Cent

The net first-quarter profit of the State Bank of India (SBI) has registered a 31.64 per cent increase to Rs 763.20 crore, against Rs 579.78 crore in the corresponding period of 2001-02.

The operating profit during the three-month period stood at Rs 1,715.96 crore, up 17.29 per cent against Rs 1,463 crore during the same period last year, according to a press release from the bank.

Net interest income grew by 8.92 per cent and other income by 12.64 per cent, whereas the increase in operating expenses was contained at 3.64 per cent.

Deposits of the bank as on last Friday of June 2002 registered an increase of 11.81 per cent at Rs 2,29,912 crore.
