Rural Electrification

The group of ministers (GoM) on rural electrification has decided to recommend to the Union Cabinet an interest subsidy of 4 per cent on loans availed by states and utilities from financial institutions for electrification of villages.

The GoM, headed by Planning Commission deputy chairman KC Pant, decided on Tuesday, to prepare a Cabinet paper on the proposed interest subsidy and submit it for clearance next week. A provision of Rs 164 crore was made in the annual Budget 2002-03 which has not been utilised.
