Railway Board chairman RK Singh has asked zones to increase the stock of coal, by accelerating its transportation, in order to check the depleting stocks in power houses in the northern region.

The Railways have been asked to build up adequate stocks in all the 16 power houses in this region.

He said one extra rake of freight train would be added from Singroli to increase coal supply to power houses. Addressing a day long conference of general managers of zonal railways, he asked them to monitor the movement of coal, to ensure that there was no let up.

Mr Singh also asked the zones to augment line and terminal capacity for meeting the requirements of incremental freight loading, in view of the countrys growing gross domestic product.
