Rinac India, a provider of farm-to-fork cold chain and insulated panel infrastructure, is looking at tapping the budding agri, hospitality and retail market of Uttar Pradesh. With the government waking up to the importance of cold chains, especially in areas like preserving fruits, vegetables, poultry, fish, milk and wheat products, Rinac sees a big role for itself.

This is especially true of Uttar Pradesh, which has bumper stocks of potato and mango every year but loses out to other states due to the lack of proper state-of-the-art cold chains.

?The journey from the farm to the end consumer is a long one and if proper care is not taken to preserve perishable goods, at least 20% of it is wasted, which eventually is the farmers? or retailers? loss,? said Manjunath MS, head, product marketing.

The company is in talks with the state government to provide power-saving solutions for seeds, which is approved and used by many global companies. The company will also explore the possibility of providing solutions for preserving potato in the state.

?Uttar Pradesh has the highest number of potato cold chains in the country, close to 1300. But most of them are lacking in providing quality storage facilities. We are looking forward to provide our expertise in this sector too,? he said.

The company, which had a turnover of Rs 100 crore last year, has downscaled its targets from Rs 250 crore to Rs 180 crore due to the slump in the market. ?Presently, we enjoy a marketshare of about 20% in the cold-chain business,? Manjunath said.

The company enjoys a 95% market share for air catering in flights.
