Riding on discounts, SpiceJet posts highest load factor in Sept; IndiGo leads market share with 32.1%

Low-cost carrier SpiceJet has posted the highest load factor among domestic carriers for September at 85.9% on the back of various discounts offered by the airline in the past few months.

According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) data, only JetLite and GoAir posted over 80% load factor during September, recording 82.7% and 82.3%, respectively.

Airline-wise, the load factor breakup for September stood as follows: Air India (76.7%), Jet Airways (77.2%), IndiGo (77.9%), Air Costa (76.4%) and Air Asia India (68.7%).

During the month, IndiGo led market share among domestic airlines registering 32.1% while Spice Jet stood second at 19.6%, followed by Air India (16.9%), Jet Airways (16.2%), GoAir (9.5%), JetLite (4%), AirCosta(1.1%), AirAsia (0.7%).

The total number of passengers carried by domestic airlines during January and September 2014 stood at 4.91 crore against 4.66 crore during the same period of the previous year, registering growth of 7.55%, DGCA data revealed.

Gurgaon-based IndiGo led the pack in on-time performance (OTP), recording 89.9% OTP during September. Jet Airways and JetLite registered a combined 84.5% while GoAir posted 83.6%. SpiceJet registered 81.9% and Air India (domestic) recorded 75.2% in this segment.

The overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines during the same period stood at 1%, led by Air Costa, which saw a 5.5% cancellation rate. This was followed by Air India's domestic operations,w hich saw 2.52%. Other airlines registered a cancellation rate under 1%.
