Remove hurdles for growth of manufacture: Assocham

The countrys manufacturing sector has the potential to create 25 million new jobs by 2008-09 and its contribution to gdp will enhance substantially, industry chamber Assocham has projected.

The global trends to manufacturing and soured products in low cost countries like India will gather strength over the next 10 years, particularly in skilled intensive industries in which country like India will significantly have competitive advantages, assocham President Anil K agarwal said.

The contribution of manufacturing sector as a whole to Indias gdp today staggers around 17 per cent compared to China, Korea and Thailand where it forms around one third of their gdp, assocham said in a statement.

In a bid to attain the projected growth, the chamber saida feasible environment should be created to facilitate higher investments.
