The ongoing bandwidth-tangle between Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) and Reliance Infocomm has been resolved with VSNL agreeing to release 17 STM1s (Synchronous Transport Module). Over one gigabit of bandwidth will be available to customers starting next week, said Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) member Dr DPS Seth. Reliance Infocomm and VSNL met the Trai Wednesday to discuss the issue.

They still had issues left, lot of which were resolved today, said Dr Seth. VSNL wanted a confirmation from Reliance that 17 STM1s were actually available. It also wanted a confirmation that when VSNL received five out of those 17 STM1s, it would be given at non-discriminatory price.

The issue of operational and maintenance charges still stays unresolved. But the players will decide on it in due course, Dr Seth said.
