Reliance Fresh firms up for Pune

Reliance Retail plans for Pune are finally taking shape. The company is expected to debut in Pune during the first week of April. Highly placed sources, indicate that while work is in progress at a full pace in Mumbai, industry watchers believe that Pune could pip Mumbai to the post.

At least five Reliance Fresh stores are expected to debut by the first week of April. These are likely to come up at Salunke Vihar, Mukund Nagar, Paud Road, Pune-Satara Road and Sus-Pashan Road. Company sources said that, these stores will stock fresh vegetables and fruits. Sources said that they have been trying to fix up a date for the opening of the stores and to tie up the supply chain for these. Atul Deshpande, proprietor of the Ellora Palace, a wedding hall on Pune-Satara Road said, The 18,000 sq ft hall would be converted into a Reliance outlet. Work is in full progress and will be completed soon.

Reliance specialty stores would be next on the agenda in Pune. These seven specialty stores would include fresh fruit, vegetables and groceries. Reliance Hyper marts would vary in the size above one lakh sq ft.

Primarily, these were likely to be located in outskirt areas of Pune such as Kharadi, Hinjewadi and Aundh.

The Reliance Fresh stores would span between 5000 sq ft to 7000 sq ft. The specialty stores for FMCG products, lifestyle and IT products and would range between 10,000 sq ft to 50,000 sq ft while the hyper mart format would have an expanse of over one lakh sq ft. When contacted, the companys official spokesperson declined to comment.
