Rayon is gaining popularity as a natural fibre. Moreover, as a niche product for the upper end applications, it is expected to witness a steady growth.

Aditya Birla group executive president KK Maheshwari said: Domestic rayon industry is likely to grow at 2.5-3% per annum.

Viscose paper filament could substitute cotton to an extent. Some observers see cotton slowly stagnating as a fibre source and thus, post January 2005, foreign buyers are likely to look at rayon. Rayon is also likely to emerge with more niche applications. Its eco-friendly nature of rayon is another positive aspect.
