Ramco Rolls Out New App And Delivery Platform

Chennai-based Ramco Systems Ltd unveiled its new application and delivery platform branded Ramco VirtualWorks (RVW), which it termed as a technological breakthrough for the software industry. The company also launched Ramco Enterprise Series 4.0, the latest version of its enterprise software solutions built on the RVW platform.

RVW has the potential to change the software industry and its economics. Using RVW, we can provide solutions twice as fast as competition and at 30 per cent lower costs, said Ramcos managing director RP Venketrama Raja, at a press conference held here on Thursday.

RVW includes a model-based architecture, a complete Web-enabled set of workbenches for the application development life cycle, as well as methodologies for all stages of development and implementation.

In simpler terms, RVW has components for business function with can be integrated with ease and minimal coding. The platform has been developed at a cost of $60 million (Rs 288 crore) and over a seven year time span.

Products and solutions based on the RVW platform have been received very well. The platform will help us provide custom solutions. We have got about 16 confirmed orders and another ten are in the pipeline. The orders are a mix of products and solutions, Mr Raja noted.

The RVW-based products have been developed in a technology neutral environment. The applications are available for IBM, J2EE and .Net applications, making them future proof for customers technical environment, company officials said.

It is capable of working on any platform and none of our competitors offer such versatility, Mr Raja explained.

When queried about the financial impact RVW will have on the company, Mr Raja said that, it would take a couple of quarters to comment on the issue. Meanwhile, the stock markets cheered the launch and the Ramco stock rose 10 per cent to close at Rs 545 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
