The programme being performed for the 46th consecutive year is on till the end of this month. And though the dance drama is a yearly feature, just like the Kendras Krishna, theres a certain charm about it that makes you go back to it every year.
Though the main presentation essentially remains the same, Padmashri Shobha Deepak Singh, director and vice chairperson of Shriram Bhartiya Kala Kendra, has made some improvisation this year. While the year before last saw the change of Awadhi to Hindi, this year sees a new cast, contemporary costumes as well as jewellery. The chorus as well as the cast consist of the students of the Kendra. And if things changing around us are anything to go by, the characters this year are leaner. Ms Singh explains it as giving the whole show a contemporary look. So Sita as well as Ram are leaner than they were in the past years. Raj Kumar Sharma plays Ram, Swasti Gautam is the new Sita. Swapan Majumdar is a constant factor, playing Laxman. Then the costumes as well as jewellery have a very contemporary look about them.
Of course, these are mere cosmetic changes. Ram comes through as divine as ever. The music, the sets, the movements are as perfect as they can be. Dont miss this if you havent seen something tasteful in a while.
