Mr Sudarshan had met former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday on the issue.
Party circles have indicated that among the names that have been shortlisted are Sushma Swaraj and Rajnath Singh. The latter is a favourite, considering that he has good standing at the grassroot level. On the other hand, Ms Sushma Swarajs supporters have made a strong case in her favour on the ground that her elevation would send a strong message of the party being supportive of womens empowerment.
Ms Swaraj is also said to have good rapport with the RSS, which would go a long way in keeping the BJP-RSS relationship frictionless. The party and RSS will start deliberating on the issue once the Bihar elections are over and are likely to announce the next presidents name at the partys national executive council in Mumbai that starts on December 26.
