The central government has released 17 lakh tonne of sugar for August under the non-levy or free-sale quota. According to an official statement, out of the total 17 lakh tonne sugar, 13.37 lakh tonne will be made available through the normal quota, while another 3.13 lakh tonne will be made available through refining of imported raw sugar and 0.50 lakh tonne from imports of refined sugar. Almost 2.20 lakh tonne of sugar will be sold through the PDS system during the month.
Gold holds firm
Gold steadied on Thursday, with price-sensitive physical buying keeping the metal off the last sessions three-month lows, but a revival in appetite for assets seen as higher risk took the heat out of safe-haven demand.Spot gold was bid at $1,163.05 an ounce, against $1,162.55 late in New York on Wednesday.
