Indian Hotels to own 200 hotels globally by 2018

Tata Group hospitality major Indian Hotels Company (IHCL) on Thursday said it plans to open 83 new hotels globally to take tally to 200 by the end of 2018. The company, which has 117 operational hotels, said it will mainly follow an asset light and management contract model for its future expansion. "We plan to have 200 hotels by the end of five years globally. As of now we have 117 hotels," Indian Hotels Company MD & CEO Raymond N Bickson said. He was speaking on the sidelines of the launch of its 100th hotel in India at Gurgaon. The new 208-room hotel is under its upper upscale brand, Vivanta by Taj taking the number of properties under the Vivanta brand to 26.

Raymond suspends ops at Valsad over green rules

Textile conglomerate Raymond has temporarily suspended operations at its Valsad plant in Gujarat as it received a notice of closure from the Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) due to alleged violation of environmental norms. The company has filed a revocation application with the concerned authorities and expects an early resolution in the matter. "The company understands that similar notices have been issued to a few other manufacturing units operating in the vicinity of the Company's premises. The Company has temporarily suspended operations, at the said plant in compliance with the notice and has filed a revocation application with the concerned authorities. The Company expects an early resolution in the matter," the company said in a filing to BSE.

Tata Projects starts work on eastern freight line

Tata Projects (TPL) said it has started construction of a rail corridor for freight transport in eastern India. TPL, which has tied up with Spanish infrastructure company Aldesa for the project, was recently awarded the first major contract for the eastern dedicated freight corridor by the Indian railways ministry. The World Bank is providing $975 million for the project, which is part of a scheme by the Railway ministry to build two lines for freight transport from Northern India to ports on both the eastern and western coasts of the country. The R3,267 crore project awarded to TPL involves building a 337 km double track and 14 km single line that connects Bhaupur and Khurja in UP. The company said 82% of the land acquisition for the rail line has been completed and the project is expected to start operating by 2017.

RInfra unveils online recharge on toll road

Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra), through its special purpose vehicle (SPV) HK Toll Road, has unveiled online recharge facility for smart card users of Hosur-Krishnagiri road corridor in Tamil Nadu. RInfra is one of the few road concessionaires in the country to introduce this facility for its commuters, which will save their traveling time, improve traffic flow and provide host of other benefits. Lalit Jalan, CEO RInfra, said, "We are happy to introduce online recharge payment. This facility will allow commuters to recharge their smart cards whenever and wherever they wish to and avoid visiting to toll plazas and wait in long queues for recharging their smart cards."

ESPN STAR Sports launches new channel

ESPN STAR Sports is all set to launch a new channel, especially for the Indian sub-continent keeping in mind the growing need of the Indian sports fans.The new channel STAR Sports 2 will be officially launched on March 11, 2013 and will showcase live and non-live events across sporting categories cricket, soccer, tennis, motor racing and golf. In the first month of its launch, the channel will cover tournaments like Serie A and La Liga soccer, BPL action, Nascar racing and prime tennis from the Men's ATP Tour amongst others.

Hewlett-Packard on Thursday launched in India its business tablet priced at R43,500 that is powered by latest processors for faster computing. "HP ElitePad 900 is an ultra-thin, lightweight tablet designed for Windows 8. It is the device that can help the enterprise workforce to be more productive while ensuring security aspects," said Sunish Raghavan, head, HP India, printing and personal systems group (commercial PC category).
