The results, dealing a huge blow to the Left and the Congress, suggested that two and a half years of incumbency and controversies by and large failed to shake the rural peoples faith in the TMC government.

India-born Mamnoon Hussain elected Pakistans 12th Prez

India-born Pakistani businessman Mamnoon Hussain was elected the 12th President of Pakistan after he trounced his lone opponent in a one-sided contest. Hussain, 73, will be sworn in on September 9 at the presidential palace due to be vacated by incumbent Asif Ali Zardari, who is stepping down at the end of his five-year term.

CSIR to conduct tests on mid-day meals

In the wake of the mid-day meal tragedy in Bihar, the Centre has engaged the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) to randomly test samples of food served as part of the scheme for quality and their protein and calorie content. The measure has already been implemented in Delhi and Andhra Pradesh, and results are awaited of the first samples collected in these two states.
