Ratan Tata joins board of China-backed Boao Forum
Ratan Tata was on Thursday inducted as a member of the Board of Boao Forum for Asia (BFA), a rare distinction for an Indian in the Chinese government-backed influential body. This is the first time a senior Indian business leader was accorded the distinction, K Nagraj Naidu, Indias consul general in Guangzhou, who is attending the BFA being held at held Boao, in south Chinas Hainan province, said. It is also a recognition for Tatas as a global conglomerate, he said. BFA was formed in 2001 on the lines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
GMR completes Chennai Outer Ring Road stretch
GMR Highways said on Thursday that the company has received a provisional certificate for completion of groups Chennai Outer Ring Road project with effect from June 15, 2013, from the Tamil Nadu government and all concerned agencies. This marks the completion of phase I of the Chennai ORR project, it said. GMR says that its ninth highway project will add R118 crore as cash flow every year for the next 17 and half years.
Gamesa sets up 1,000 MW wind power installations
Gamesa India, global technological leader in the wind industry, on Thursday announced that it has achieved the distinction of supplying equipment worth 1,000 MW to independent power producers in the last four years of its commercial operations in March 2010. In the last fiscal (2013-14), the company had sold more than 400 MW worth equipment to IPPs and this achievement could be possible with the commissioning of a new plant at Mamandur near Chennai with an installed capacity to produce 1,500 MW worth equipment per annum in a single shift.
M&S Q4 sales up 1.9% on global performance
Marks & Spencer on Thursday reported a 1.9% increase in group sales in the fourth quarter on strong performance in international markets like India, China and the Gulf. International sales have jumped by 4.7%. In India, the company operates its stores in a joint venture with Reliance Retail. The international business continues to perform well. Our priority markets delivered a strong performance with impressive growth in India, in our flagship stores in China and in the Gulf, the company statement said.
