L&T Construction has won new orders valued at over R1,875 crore across various business segments in March 2012. The power transmission & distribution company secured new orders in both domestic and international markets from reputed customers. Domestic orders worth R701 crore include a major order from the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board for the construction of a 148-km, 400-kV DC transmission line from Pugalur to Pandiankuppam in Tamil Nadu. The project will be completed in 18 months, said a release from the company.
Tata Power seeks coal linkage for Jharkhand units
Tata Power Company (TPCL), which recently signed an MoU with the Jharkhand government for a 1,980 MW-power project at Tiruldih, is seeking coal linkage for the two subsequent units after the first one from the state government. The power utility, which had on March 27 signed an MoU with the state for the estimated R10,000-crore Tiruldih project is banking on coal for the first 660 MW unit from Tubed Coal Mines, a 60:40 joint venture formed between Hindalco and Tata Power at Tubed in Latehar district.
RInfra commissions sub-station at Borivali
Reliance Infrastructure (RInfra) has commissioned its fourth 220-KW extra-high voltage (EHV) sub-station at Borivali. This will further create an opportunity to open new supply outlets in Borivali East, said a company statement. The company has already spent around R700 crore on strengthening the Mumbai Transmission Grid. The company is executing five transmission projects across the country with an outlay of over R6,600 crore.
Indian Bank bags Skoch Challenger award
Chennai-based public sector lender Indian Bank has been awarded the Skoch Challenger of the year award for 2012 for its outstanding contribution in banking. The banks CMD, TM Bhasin, received the award, said a release from the bank.

The company is opening its third global innovation centre in India at Pune to work on development services for Indian converters and original equipment manufacturers.
Essar Energy appoints Lucas non-exec director
London-listed Essar Energy, the India-focused integrated energy company, on Friday said it has appointed Steve Lucas as its fifth non-executive director with immediate effect. "Lucas was finance director at the power and gas transmission network operator National Grid from 2002 to 2010 and has significant expertise in the international energy sector, infrastructure finance and treasury functions," the company said in a press statement.
MRPL ramps up refining capacity to 15 mt
Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical (MRPL) on Friday said it has completed expansion of its refinery to 15 million tonne, raising India's refining capacity to 216 mt. MRPL, a subsidiary of state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corp, in a press statement said the nameplate capacity of the refinery has gone up to 15 mt per annum from 11.82 mt.
