Ban on import of Myanmar pigs
The import of pigs from neighbouring Myanmar into five districts in Mizoram have been banned following detection of Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) disease in them, official sources said.
The district magistrates of Champhai, Serchhip, Lunglei, Lawngtlai and Saiha districts banned the import of pigs from Myanmar. The ban followed detection of a number of PRRS cases
in the state which were confirmed by the High Security Animal Disease Laboratory in Bhopal on June 21.
Experts said that pigs in Mizoram were infected by those imported from Myanmar, where the dreaded disease was prevalent.
