Punjab and Haryana, the key wheat growing states in the country, are eyeing an output of 146.6 lakh metric tonne and 114.62 lakh mt, respectively in the coming rabi season, even as wheat sowing is expected to delay by at least five days on account of late paddy sowing.

We are targeting to bring 35 lakh hectare under wheat crop this year with an estimated output of 146.6 lakh mt, a senior official of Punjab agriculture department said here. Punjab had last year brought highest-ever area under wheat crop at 35.26 lakh hectare and achieved record output of 157.33 lakh mt.
