Punes industrial growth drives hotel boom

Punes industrial growth is driving a boom in the hospitality business. After JW Marriott, Lemon Tree, Leela and Holiday Inn, the city is talking about a new business hotel. St Laurn , a four star business has opened its first four-star business hotel for the citys business travelers.

The hotel is owned by the Karia group. The group would be setting two such business hotels in the city. These would include St Laurn Suites with 88 suites at Hinjewdi and St Laurn Courtyard, a 100 rooms four-star hotel at Mundhwa.

These projects will become operational by 2007 and 2008, Kariyaa, MD, St Laurn Hotels said. The company has floated a special SPV Shirdi Country Inns Pvt Ltd to execute these projects.

Kariyaa said that the company has invested Rs 45 crore on its first hotel and would be bringing 30 new hotels to India in the next three years.

Since General Motors and Volkswagen were setting up base a Talegaon, the company has acquired 8000 sq mts to set up a 150-room business hotel in this area. In the next 20 months, the company would be investing Rs 220 crore for growth,

Kariyaa said that, the company has received enquiries from a couple of investors in Surat and Indore.

The future growth would come from tier-II towns, he added. The first hotel that has come up in Koregaon Park is a 63-room, four-star category business hotel.
