Brazil has begun to attract the attention of Indian auto component firms. Agni Auto Components, a manufacturer of press parts for brake systems in Pune, has inked a pact to supply brake systems to Knorr Bremse AG, a German manufacturer of brake systems for rail and commercial vehicles, for its plant in Brazil.

Knorr Bremse has a presence in India for the past one-and-a-half years, supplying braking systems for the heavy vehicles at Tata Motors. Knorr Bremse assembles these systems at its Pune plant, MK Sunderraj, general manager, operations, Agni Auto Components, said.

The company supplies one lakh brake systems every month to Knorr Bremses Pune plant. Knorr has placed a $20 million order with Agni Auto Components for its plant in Brazil. The first shipment has already been dispatched. If the company approves of our quality, more orders would be forthcoming. Agni is also in discussions with other European firms for supply auto components, he said.

To cater to the increasing demand, Agni is doubling capacities at its Pune plant to manufacture two lakh components per month and is investing Rs 1.5 crore for the purpose. Agni is in discussions with major Indian firms to expand their business.

Agni is targeting a turnover of Rs 25 crore by 2008-09.
