The public sector Powergrid Corporation recently set up a new office in Gurgaon in the suburbs of Delhi. It is a rather smart looking building with an imposing POWERGRID written in letters cut out as glowsigns. This looks fine in the day but not so at night.
Its glowsign, which should be lit in the interests of branding, does not make for happy viewing. Only the P and half of O were lit up the other night. Wonder what kind of a power problem was being faced by the other letters As they say, charity begins at home but here it seems that power woes begin at home.
No Autumn For This Patriarch
DMK supremo M Karunanidhi surprised many people when he shot off a letter to the Prime Minister seeking an enquiry into the alleged dereliction of duty by doctors at Indias top two hospitals where his nephew and Union minister Murasoli Maran had undergone treatment. Though no one immediately understood what provoked the veteran leader to suddenly level charges against the same hospitals which he praised earlier, the grapevine in political circles is abuzz about Mr Karunanidhis familial connections.
It is rumoured that the Enforcement Directorate has caught wind of some dealings of a prominent member of Mr Marans family when he was abroad visiting the ailing minister. Though there is no way of confirming it, sources say Mr Karunanidhi is now diverting the media glare from the ED enquiry by raising a smokescreen. With one son in jail and another on the run fearing yet another politically motivated arrest, isnt it understandable that the family patriarch has to step in to save them
