Prices of 25 bulk drugs, 9 derivatives revised

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has revised the prices of 25 bulk drugs and nine derivatives following reduction in the customs duty as announced in the Budget 2005-06.

NPPA has also approved prices in respect of 333 formulation packs. Of these, the ceiling prices in respect of 113 formulation packs have also been fixed to extend the same price for more than one unit manufacturing the same for formulation. It has also approved the prices of 220 non-ceiling packs.

This suo motu exercise in case of the bulk drugs has been carried out to pass on the benefit of reduction of duties to the consumers at large. The prices revised along with the pre-revised prices and the percentage decrease in a range of 0.02% to 3.17%. The price of oxcarbazepine, a derivative of the bulk drug carbamezapine, has been fixed for the first time at Rs 3,280 per kg. Prices were also approved by the authority for 234 formulation packs for the first time.
