Power sector needs $20-bn for rural areas

The power sector will need a massive investment of $100 billion for adding a generation capacity of 68,000 mw, besides transmission and distribution network, during the 11th Plan period (2007-12).

RV Shahi power secretary, on the sidelines of a function on the launch of PFC's IPO, said $30 billion would be required to expand the transmission capacity and $20 billion for the rural electrification programme and distribution.
