Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Monday suggested to the Indian community in the US to set up an action group that would function as an effective lobby group to project Indias position on Pakistan sponsored terrorism in Kashmir. The action group could also be helpful in putting in proper perspective negative and wrong reports based on half-truths about India, he said while addressing the Indian community here. Mr Vajpayee observed that action groups of many countries were active in US and wondered why the Indian diaspora couldnt have such a grouping.

An Indian action group should be active in America to put across the correct picture about the Pak-sponsored-terrorism in Kashmir, he said.

Most of the reports published here are sent by foreign correspondents who many a time do not have full information about facts... Since you are aware of the reality, you can put the facts in proper perspective, the Prime Minister said.

Mr Vajpayee also regretted that influence of the Indian community in the American political and administrative set up was not reflected in proportion to the prestige they had gained in the US society.

Observing that India, specially his government, had taken several measures to maintain a relationship with the diaspora, he said steps had been initiated to implement the decision to given dual citizenship to them in some countries including the US. A Bill to this effect has been introduced in Parliament, he said, expressing the hope that it would be passed soon. A life insurance scheme is being introduced for Indian labourers working in the Gulf and S-E Asian countries.
