Planning Commission member secretary RR Shah has asked the department of scientific and industrial reserach (DSIR) to help planners adopt a model on societal application of technology instead of the macro-economic model being used now.

Speaking at a national conference on in-house R&D jointly organised by DSIR and Ficci, Mr Shah said that a base paper on the application of technology and creation of intellectual property to enable planners to move out of the macro-economic model to societal application of technology so as to drive industry and growth should be prepared by the DSIR.
