The home delivery concept route seems to be the buzzword in the fast-food retailing segment. With an increasing urban lifestyle that includes eating out on a regular basis, this concept seems to have found a large level of acceptance.

McDonalds India claims its home delivery business has grown by 15%. The other player, Dominos Pizza India Ltd has registered a 40% sales growth till March this year. Yums International, which runs the Pizza Hut chain in India, is also looking at a double digit sales growth.

McDonalds India, managing director-western region, Amit Jatia, said: The entry of more organised players coupled with an increase in the advertising and higher disposable incomes are the major reasons for the growth of this segment.

When contacted, Dominos Pizza India Ltd, marketing head, Rakshit Hargave said: Ordering pizzas at home is convenient and removes the need for utensils and paper napkins. There has been a change in perception in the market place because kids prefer it.

The Rs 200 crore pizza home delivery market is growing at the rate of 15-20% and is expected to grow at 25-40% over the next one year while the overall fast-food industry is growing at the rate of 30%. Dominos Pizza India Ltd had sold around 8 million pizzas, and, targets for next year are to sell more than 10 million pizzas, added Mr Hargave.
