Centre for Public Interest Litigation, an NGO, has moved the Delhi High Court demanding a CBI or court-monitored probe into the tendering processes adopted by public sector steel major SAIL.

The NGO has also sought that a thorough audit into the accounts of SAIL be carried out by the Comptroller and Auditor General.

The plea alleges that the process of awarding contracts at inflated costs to a few companies for obscene amounts of profit, has already resulted in a loss of about R25,000-R30,000 crore to the public exchequer.

For now, the court has renotified the matter for further hearing on July 23.
