Petrochem hub policy likely by September

The Cabinet is likely to approve the policy framework for proposed petroleum, chemicals and petrochemicals investment regions (PCPIR) in September, while the comprehensive petrochemicals policy could get the nod in October.

A Cabinet note has already been circulated among various constituents and clearance is expected next month, BP Pandey, joint secretary to the chemicals and petrochemicals department, said on Wednesday. The final petrochemical policy is likely to get Cabinet approval in October, he added.

The national policy on petrochemicals was announced in February 2005 and a draft policy was prepared and finalised internally. Regarding the PCPIR policy, Pandey said, the government discussing various issues like framework for the developnment of these investment regions.
