The Sixth Pay Commission?s recommendations should be welcomed (?Dynamic babudom is pay panel?s tune?, Mar 25). While implementing them, government officials need to remember a few things. They have to process files in the quickest possible time. Summary action must be taken for corruption. Another important step is to create monitoring bodies at all levels of administration to evaluate every official?s performance and to link pay and position with it.

Systemic glitches

Your editorial (?Pay for performance?, Mar 25) has pointed out that this is a good opportunity to better the performance of public servants. But unions and other interest groups may oppose performance-linked bonus, saying that it will lead to favouritism. To overcome these and some other systemic glitches, methods followed by some developed countries could be studied. Technology could also help.
