The campaign by the administration here against those who have installed submersible pumps and other devices without registration has set alarm bells ringing in a section of the industry, as elsewhere in Haryana.

The campaign comes close on the heels of a directive from the Central Ground water Authority, which has put areas in Gurgaon and Faridabad districts in the danger zone in the face of fast-depleting underground water table.

At the moment, the administration is focusing on private parties who are indulging in commercial activities by selling water after tapping it from underground source.

A large number of industries along National Highway Nos 8and 2 and certain villages like Khanda, Mohdpur, Jharsa, Ajronda, Hodal etc claim that the water being supplied to them is brackish and hence they buy from private parties.

A team of industrialists met Gurgaon deputy commissioner Anurag Rustgi on Tuesday and apprised him of the difficulties faced by the units on account of the order. However, the administration has decided to stick to its stand.
