Panel formed for Punjab highways projects

On the advice of Union minister of road, transport and highways Kamal Nath, the Punjab government has constituted a seven-member committee under the chairmanship of state chief secretary to streamline coordination among various departments to ensure faster implementation of the National Highway projects in the state.

A spokesman of the chief ministers office said Parkash Singh Badal had givenapproval for the constitution of this committee which would include the financial commissioner revenue, the principal secretary power, principal secretary forest, secretary PWD (B&R), secretary water supply and sanitation as its members and the chief general manager of the National Highways Authority of India would be its member secretary.

The committees mandate would include expeditious resolution of issues for timely implementation of the project inter-alia including land acquisition, shifting of utilities and rehabilitation and resettlement. It may be added that Kamal Nath in a letter to the CM has informed the ministry of road transport and highways had taken up through the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), upgrading of national highways under various phases of the National Highways Development Project.
